Kristi Photo just added -- thanks to Heather Winfield for sharing this with us!   November 9, 2002: Kristi Yamaguchi update -- it's definitely Eva's "Imagine" that she is skating to this season!  For those of you who do not follow skating, Kristi Yamaguchi is a former Olympic Gold Medal champion, and the second figure skater of international standard to use Eva's music in performance.  Heather writes, "I saw 'Divas on Ice' tonight, and for Kristi's second number, she skated to Eva's 'Imagine.' It was really frustrating because they announced probably 90% of the music before the skaters did each program, but did they announce that Kristi was skating to Eva Cassidy's Imagine? Nooo! :( My mom was so annoyed. Anyway, the program was one of the most beautiful of the show, and my favorite. It got probably the biggest ovation of the night. It was wonderful. I said to my friend that Eva's voice throughout the arena just adds so much to the program. I can't imagine a badly skated program to any of Eva's songs. Can we make it a requirement that all skaters must skate to her once in their lifetime? Though Michelle and Kristi skating to her music would be hard to top. Tell everyone on your site to mark their calendars to watch this program!"

If you are in the US, here are the dates to mark (but in pencil, because everything on television is subject to change): "Kristi Yamaguchi's Salute to Gold" will be shown on Dec 22nd on NBC from 4-6 PM EST; "Divas on Ice" will be shown on January 4th on NBC from 4-6 PM EST.

**UPDATE: Here is another report from the "Divas on Ice" performance in Trenton, from Leon: "The performance was fabulous, a real triumph! Kristi, in a skate like this, is absolutely mesmerizing. The sound quality was superb. Trenton's arena is very small so it was really quite intimate, which suits Eva perfectly. Kristi's skate to 'Imagine' was the final individual performance before the full cast finale. I thought the audience was quite swept up into the performance. I know I was. Eva's singing combined with the artistry of a beautiful floating angel like Kristi on the ice is hard to put into words. Poignant is the best word I can come up with. Full of intense feelings, hopeful about what could and should be and tinged with sadness by what is. A very complete, moving and satisfying performance. One disappointment is, we are back to not identifying Eva in the introduction to the performance. Time to write NBC to make sure they do it in the broadcast of the show."

Skate December 2002:  Did many of you see Kristi Yamaguchi skate to Eva's "Imagine" on NBC on December 22nd?  I was not able to watch it but I hope to see a videotape soon.  Garrett from the "Michelle Kwan Forum" was kind enough to give me a description of the program: 'Kristi skated to "Imagine" with lots of grace and smooth skating. She has a light way about her which makes her fun to watch. She did a series of beautiful moves - Outside spirals, backward spirals, Ina Bauers, and spread eagles. She landed a triple toe, triple loop, and a double axel. She also completed a few spins like a flying camel and layback spin. Overall this program is a very light and beautiful program.'  Garrett is twelve years old and training as a competitive skater.  Thanks, Garrett!

Skate January 2003:  Bill in the U.S. is a skating fan as well as an Eva fan. He writes, 'I got my Feb. Blades On Ice magazine yesterday and they did a review of Kristi's "Salute to Gold." The reviewers (Lynn Rutherford and Fran Buhman) say.... "She concluded the second half's solo with the spare, lyrical Eva Cassidy version of 'Imagine,' another well skated performance highlighted by several triple jumps and a double Axle, and received a strong ovation from the audiance."  I really must agree with them based upon what I saw on TV. Even after looking at Webster I'm not really sure what the reviewers mean by "spare".'  (Reply from Laura -- I think they mean that it is just guitar and vocals, without lots of strings and other instrumentation.)

Skate March 8, 2003: Bill writes, 'My April Blades on Ice arrived today. Lynn Rutherford did a real nice review of the latest "Divas on Ice". She says.... "Two nearly flawless routines from Yamaguchi: A reprise of her Smoky Joe's Cafe' program from several years back, followed by her gentle interpretation of Eva Cassidy's rendition of Imagine." If this sounds familiar it's because it is. Either International Figure Skating or Skating Magazine mentioned Eva in their review of the same show a few weeks ago.'
