FAMOUS SNAPSHOT: This photograph of Eva Cassidy was used for the cover of the SONGBIRD CD and again on the cover of the hardback edition of the Songbird book. It was taken by Eva's friend Elaine Stonebraker, who gave me permission to reproduce the full photo here. Elaine doesn't remember when she took the picture, but she recalls, "It was on one of our C&O Canal trips in October, which we went on each year between 1991 and 1994. We did stop one frosty morning at Big Pool to take pictures, so I have a feeling it was there. Brrrrr. We had only one set of mittens between us...."
HIKING in the Virgin Islands
MORE HIKING: Eva seems to be saying, "Don't take my picture!" All I know about this one is that it was taken on a hiking trip in the springtime.
BUBBLE OR EGG? One of the eggs or bubbles that Eva depicted so often in her paintings that it became a sort of trademark.
EARLY 1990s: Eva with Chris Biondo at the Leonardo da Vinci restaurant in Georgetown. If you are very observant and have read every article ever written about Eva, you have already noticed that Eva is wearing the same dress she had on in the TIME AFTER TIME photo session with Norman Watkins.

This sun face (right) is the top of a little ceramic box Eva made. She enjoyed working with many different art media.
TOURING ANNAPOLIS: Eva's German friend Wiebke Sander took this snapshot of Eva in front of a house in Annapolis, Maryland, in 1994. "Eva was showing me narrow alleys with nice little homes in different colors. One of them had this beautiful flowerbox that Eva liked a lot." Pansies were some of Eva's favorite flowers.
JANUARY 1996: "If happy little bluebirds fly above the rainbow, why oh why can't I?" This is a "screen shot" from the videotape of Eva singing "Over the Rainbow" at Blues Alley in 1996. Bryan McCulley, who shot the video, gave me permission to reproduce this image.
HOW MANY CANDLES? If we knew, we could tell you when these pictures were taken, but we think it was 1993. Eva (and Chris Biondo, in the picture on the left) at a birthday party, presumably for Eva. Many thanks to Penny Biondo, Chris's mom, for these snapshots. She probably made the cake, too!
WILLIAMS-BIONDO IN 1999: Two of the members of Eva's band, bassist Chris Biondo (right) and pianist Lenny Williams. Today Lenny and Chris work together (as Williams-Biondo Music) composing soundtracks for television documentaries. This photo was taken at Lenny's wedding in 1999.

PRESENT FOR CHRIS: One of many craft projects that Eva enjoyed -- a realistic-looking book that opens into a box. This one was a teasingly humorous gift for Chris Biondo. Eva gave the volume the title "MY TIES WITH THE CORELEONE FAMILY & OTHER SHORT STORIES BY CHRIS BIONDO." Inside, she provided an "author's photo" and a blurb which concludes, "He is currently working on his second book, I Have Some White Friends." (Chris was working mostly with Go Go and rap artists at that time.)

A formal photo of the Eva Cassidy Band was never taken, apparently because Keith had a superstition that as soon as a band portrait was made, someone would leave the group.

Support the hardworking musicians in your area by attending live performances. Go out to the little clubs and restaurants that offer live music, and if you like what you hear, tell the performers! Clap long and loud! And if they're selling CDs and tapes from their guitar cases, as Eva once did, support their talents and efforts that way too. As someone once wrote in the Guestbook, "There will never be another Eva Cassidy, but there will be someone else."
